Kentucky Oral Health Coalition (KOHC) is a statewide group of oral health professionals and advocates aiming to improve oral health for all Kentuckians by increasing oral health literacy and improving access to care. One of the ways the coalition accomplishes these goals is by advocating for effective policies that improve oral health in the Commonwealth.
Each year with the help of our members across the state, KOHC develops a policy agenda that we advocate for during the General Assembly. The priorities outlined on the KOHC policy agenda are voted on by members at the December Annual Meeting and help guide our work and advocacy throughout the next year.
This year, KOHC has four priorities for the 2024 General Assembly:
- Protect community water fluoridation programs
- Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates for dental providers
- Protect current services covered in the Medicaid program
- Reduce youth initiation of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and vapes
KOHC members and oral health advocates can use their voice to advance these priorities and ensure oral health is a priority among Kentucky legislators. Here’s some ways to do that:
- Follow along with KOHC to hear about legislative action, updates, and action alerts
- Schedule a meeting, call, or send an email to your state senator and representative to let them know the issues that are important to you
- Attend virtual and in-person events during Children’s Advocacy Week, January 22-26
KOHC encourages members and oral health stakeholders across the state to join us in advocating for these policy priorities and other bills that are good for oral health in Kentucky.
