The carefree, “lazy days of summer” are in full bloom with outdoor activities and enjoyable time with family and friends. Still, there may be a fleeting thought creeping into our summer solace of how quickly the days fly by. Some may choose to utilize a few of the extra hours of daylight to get a jump-start on the “to do” list for entering school.

If you have a child entering kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year a dental screening is mandatory. Kentucky law requires proof of a dental screening or examination by a dentist, dental hygienist, physician, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant to be presented to the school no later than January 1 of the first year that a five (5) or six (6) year old child is enrolled in public school. Parents and caregivers can access required examination and immunization information, as well as all required forms including the dental screening form from the Kentucky Department of Education

Now is the time to call your provider to set up the necessary appointments. You can also check with your local health department, public library, or community center about dental screening events to help prepare kids for back-to-school. Completing your back-to-school checklist early will give you peace of mind to enjoy the rest of the carefree summer days!
