KOHC knows that oral health care is not always top of mind for children and their families around the state, and our work strives to remove barriers to accessing oral health care and practicing prevention at home. As part of our efforts, we highlight programs around the state engaging in work that helps us meet this goal and improve oral health for everyone.
Program highlight – Norton Children’s Prevention and Wellness

Any family you meet today could be facing a multitude of set-backs or challenges. Challenges like loss, unexpected accidents and illness can lead to a wave of instability that can impact accomplishing simple things. Important events such as dental appointments or even remembering to brush teeth can fall to the way-side. Instability can include physical and mental health adversities, financial crisis leading to food insecurity and lack of transportation, and much more. With lack of community support or resources, challenges can pile-on a family quickly.
At Norton Children’s Prevention and Wellness we link families in need with necessary injury-prevention and wellness resources. We collaborate with 30+ primary care clinics (mainly pediatric) to reach families and provide them with necessary resources for keeping their families safe and healthy. Play-yards, gun locks, food pantries, and helmets are a few examples of resources that are provided through medical clinics and screened for by providers and staff during appointment times.
Consider integrating empathy-driven resources into your dental office as a unique and proactive approach to supporting patients and their families overall health. To learn more please visit For Dental Professionals Only | Norton Children’s Louisville, Ky.
