EDGEWOOD, Ky. – Due to the rising costs of health care and the continued recovery of the U.S. jobs market, many people have been forced to put off things like dental checkups in order to address more pressing daily needs.

Recognizing that fact, the nonprofit organization Dentistry from the Heart held a free event Saturday in Edgewood, Ky. that provided dental care to those in need. The event was held at Edgewood Dental Care located at 155 Barnwood Drive.

Patients could receive a filling, cleaning or extraction, according to a press release from event organizers.

The staff at Edgewood Dental Care saw 100 patients during the event which went from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Event organizers said the event went so well that they plan to make it annual happening.

Dentistry from the Heart is a registered nonprofit organization that provides free dental work for those in need. According to organization’s founder, Dr. Vincent Monticciolo, Dentistry from the Heart was created as a “means to give back to the community and address the growing number of people without dental insurance.”

According to the press release for the event, the organization has contributed more than $10 million in free dentistry and helped more than 50,000 patients across the country over the past nine years.
